Play Parks still need attention
Following on from my recent article in the Kilmarnock Standard I was pleased to see New Farm Loch, Hurlford and Crookedholm parks have been cleaned up. I am however disappointed that the Kay Park play park is still covered in graffiti several months after I first raised the issue with the council. Other parks also have broken glass and dog mess littering the ground.
Dog mess and broken glass in parks are a major health and safety issue to children at play. Whilst people have a responsibility to put dog litter in the bins and not break glass, if they don’t the Council must ensure this is cleared up to ensure the safety of children.
Local residents also can play a part by reporting to the police when they notice play equipment being vandalised and making the Council aware of broken glass. Only by catching and fining those who deface our parks can we hope to stamp out this problem.
I hope the Council will take urgent action now to ensure that our play parks are a safe environment for our children to play in. The current situation is not the environment local people or I want children to be playing in.
